You were talking about why the great inequality in America makes for social problems - please read this book. It's an amazing read and even if you just read the Abstract you'll see where they're coming from. The authors look at European and advanced Asian states and the U.S. as a whole as well as U.S. states and compare them, and find that greater social inequality = greater social problems. It's fascinating, and I think it will lend fire to your thoughts of last week, about what causes more social issues in more unequal societies.
