Damn, Cheney's still Alive!

The headline in New York Times today:
Cheney Unhurt After Bombing in Afghanistan.
Damn! Better luck next time! I know I am not alone in thinking of this as a missed opportunity to rid the world of an evil man yet I am uncomfortable wishing death upon another no matter what their title. In fact there are probably few people who would not like to see Cheney dead or at least stripped of power and no longer able to cause more death and destruction around the world. But with congress unwilling to follow the Constitution and adhere to the law, the duty has fallen to the people of this country to try and stop him. We must speak out and expose his evil behavior.

I hesitate to post a message like this out of concern for possible repercussions but feel it is necessary to do so. Who knows how far this administration will go to silence voices speaking against their policies? However, we can no longer afford to remain silent and worry about what actions might be taken against us if we hope to save this country from tyrants such as Cheney. Some say my behavior is treasonous but I know remaining silent is treasonous. Those of us who speak out are doing that which our forefathers risked their lives to advocate. Freedom for all! I have faith in the people of this country to do what is right and even though I may be inviting trouble to myself for speaking out, I would rather deal with that than see my children subjected to living in a country that is no longer free.

Bush was right when he said we are in a battle of good versus evil. He just had it a little mixed up. The evil we must battle are those in our own country who stole the reins of power and now spread evil around the world. So, to those tyrants I say, bring it on!

Hillary and the War

Headline by Robert Sheer from Truthdig.com:
In light of her hawkish posturing and consistent support of the war for all
the wrong reasons, the best advice on Hillary’s campaign comes from the
candidate herself: If you’re against the war, vote for someone else.
Read Scheer's account of Hillary’s hawkish attitude in Hillary’s Calculations Add Up to War at Truthdig.
Amy Goodman also takes issue with Hillary’s double talk regarding the war writing, Her tough talk to antiwar voters is reminiscent of President Bush’s taunt to the Iraqi insurgents: “Bring them on.”

Frank Rich warns us in his New York Times column on Sunday, Where Were You That Summer of 2001?, claiming the war in Iraq is taking our attention away from the more serious and real threat in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the Taliban and Al Qaeda are thriving once again. Rich writes that intelligence officials are leaking disturbing information of a possible attack on U.S. soil.

It is precisely by pouring still more of our finite military and intelligence
resources down the drain in Iraq that we are tragically ignoring the lessons of
9/11. Instead of showing resolve, as Mr. Bush supposes, his botch of the Iraq
war has revealed American weakness. Our catastrophic occupation spawned
terrorists in a country where they didn’t used to be, and to pretend that Iraq
is now their central front only adds to the disaster. As Mr. Scheuer, the former
C.I.A. official, reiterated last week: “Al Qaeda is in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
If you want to address the threat to America, that’s where it is.” It’s typical
of Mr. Bush’s self-righteousness, however, that he would rather punt on that
threat than own up to a mistake.

Hillary Stumbles on Iraq

Has Hillary sealed her fate and put the last nail in her coffin and removed any chance she might have had of becoming the first woman president of the United States? The New York Times reported last Saturday that her 2002 vote in favor of the resolution authorizing Bush to use force in Iraq has brought division among her advisors as they all try to figure out which spin will be most advantageous. It was a mere two months ago that Hillary began speaking out against the war and even then it was only to dance around a bit. She did a Kerry saying if she had known then what she knows now she would not have voted to give Bush authority to use force in Iraq. During a campaign appearance last Saturday in NH, she went even further telling the audience if her vote on the resolution was that important to them there were other candidates to support who had either admitted they made a mistake or had voted against the resolution. I certainly applaud the gutsy move but I do think it was stupid and could prove to be her undoing. I will write more on Hillary later but in the meantime, let me know what you think.

NH Woman Shows How to Handle GOP

I am so incredibly proud to be represented in Washington by a woman who is not afraid of the big bad GOP. You go girl! We are behind you 100%. Watch out Sununu, you're about to be Shea-Portered.
From the Concord Monitor: Uncle Sam wants you!
The war of words between GOP Chairman Fergus Cullen and Rep. Carol Shea-Porter continues.
Last week, Cullen criticized Shea-Porter's recent speech on the House floor, saying it undermined U.S. troops. Shea-Porter called on Cullen to retract his statement.
Yesterday, Cullen declined to do so. "If she's going to be against this war, she should have the courage of her convictions and vote to end funding," Cullen said.
He described last week's House debate on a resolution expressing congressional disapproval of President Bush's troop surge in Iraq as "shameful."
Shea-Porter hit back: "If Fergus Cullen has the courage of his convictions, he should go enlist, because they're having trouble meeting their quota. He's young, he's single and he's healthy. If he needs to know where the recruiters are, call me."
Although she opposes the war, Shea-Porter said, she's "working in a bipartisan manner to protect the troops and keep them funded with everything they need."

A MUST READ: IRAN-READY TO ATTACK

Think the idiots in the Oval Office won’t attack Iran? Think again. You must read Iran-Ready to Attack at Newstatesman.com. Dan Plesch has pulled together the pieces and laid bare the horrendous and stark reality. The plans to use force against Iraq have been signed, sealed and delivered. British sources told Plesch that the idiots ( he might not have used that exact term) in the oval office turned their attention to Iran as soon as Saddam fled Baghdad.

According to Plesch, everything appears to be falling into place and the strike on Iran could happen any day. The ships have all sailed. Strategic bases to be used for staging have been built at various locations in the Middle East. Training has taken place. Preparations have all been made. The military is on high alert and poised in a state of readiness. Plus the Marines have not been bogged down in Iraq.

If you liked shock and awe in Iraq, wait until you see how smart the smart bomb is now.
Congress has thrown gobs of taxpayer dollars into new technology and the smart bomb is now smaller, lighter and more powerful than when it was used to pulverize Iraq more than three years ago. The military now possesses the capability to hit 10,000 targets in one single raid. The damage will be beyond comprehension and Plesch says it will all be over before we even hear about it.

I strongly urge you to PLEASE read the article, pass it on and do whatever it takes to stop this nightmare from becoming a reality. If we attack Iran, it will cease to be just a war over there as the neocons like to say. I guarantee the repercussions will be felt by all of us here at home. Posted by Meg

How much longer will this go on? We have a madman (or two) in the White House.
Everyone in the room at this week's press conference knows it. How many more have to die before someone does something?
-Bush cranks up the saber rattling. It used to be WMDs, real or not, were cause to go to war. Now, do they expect us to believe that so-called Iranian roadside explosive devices will be enough to attack another country?
-The Democrats seem content to focus all their attention on debating a NON-BINDING resolution against the surge.
- And who will ask the tough questions of the Presidential wannabes?
- We've just been through a blizzard here. Kathy stays home, but phones in.
